Observatory Equipment

Elk Creek Observatory consists of a 20' x 20' wood frame building with a 16.5' Ash Dome on top.

It is equipped with an RC Optical Systems 20" f/8.1 telescope, mounted on a Software Bisque Paramount ME.

Research with active galaxies, near-Earth Objects, extrasolar planets, and CCD image processing will be done with this telescope as well as visual observation. Students will be using the Santa Barbara Instrument Groups STL-1301E CCD camera, which has a pixel array of 1280 x 1024 pixels, 16 microns in size. Imaging will be done with LRGB and UBV filters.

The dome was manufactured by Ash Dome in Plainfield, Illinois and was installed in October 2004. Because of our limited mechanical abilities, we had Ash come out and install the dome and electronics (highly recommended and money well spent).
